About

The Japanese Garden of Buenos Aires is located within Parque Tres de Febrero, in the neighbourhood of Palermo. Known locally as El Jardín Japonés, the garden was built in the late 1960s and was inaugurated by the then Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko of Japan. Designed in a classic Japanese style, the garden covers 3 hectares (2 hectares of land and 1 hectare of water).

The central lake, home to a population of giant carp, features a traditional Japanese ‘Divine Bridge’ and a zig-zag footbridge. The grounds are adorned with well-kept native Japanese flora, waterfalls, a large Japanese Peace Bell, and a Buddhist temple. Additionally, the garden houses a greenhouse with various bonsai trees, a cultural center, a Japanese restaurant, and a souvenir shop.
