About

El Zanjón de Granados is a restored 19th-century mansion linked to the early days of Buenos Aires, making it one of the city's most important archaeological sites. It is believed that the first settlement founded by Pedro de Mendoza in 1536 was located along the banks of a creek known as El Zanjón de Granados. Over time, the settlement evolved into a town and eventually a modern metropolis, erasing the remains of the original settlement from the landscape.

In 1985, the site that we know today as El Zanjón was left derelict, and its old tenant house was in ruins. Fortunately, it was saved from demolition. The new patron of the building set about restoring it, and as the work progressed, many archaeological discoveries were made, including old foundations, tunnels, walls, wells, sewage pits, and various bits of debris.

Today, El Zanjón is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. It offers an in-depth look into the history of Buenos Aires through the centuries and how its inhabitants lived. It is also a prestigious venue for hosting events and banquets.
