About

What is La Casa Rosada? Dating back to the 18th century, La Casa Rosada (The Pink House) is one of Argentina's most iconic and well-known landmarks. La Casa Rosada Buenos Aires is the official seat of the executive branch of the Government of Argentina, where the nation's president works but does not live. The site on which La Casa Rosada is built has hosted many important political institutions since the creation of Buenos Aires.

La Casa Rosada also is famous not only for its striking pink color but also for its historical significance. It is said that President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento chose the color pink to defuse political tension by fusing the red and white colors of the country’s opposing political parties, resulting in the name 'Casa Rosada'.

Casa Rosada Balcony

One of La Casa Rosada's most significant features is its balcony overlooking Plaza de Mayo. The Casa Rosada balcony has been used as a podium by many historical figures, including Evita Perón, who rallied her lower-class followers from here, Pope John Paul II during his visit to Buenos Aires in 1998, and Diego Maradona and his teammates, who celebrated their 1986 FIFA World Cup victory from the balcony.
