About

El Palacio Barolo is one of the most interesting architectural gems in Buenos Aires. Located along Avenida de Mayo, the building was inaugurated in 1923. It was designed by Italian architect Mario Palanti, who drew inspiration from Dante Alighieri's classic poem, the Divine Comedy. Palanti included many hidden messages from the Divine Comedy in the building's architecture. For example, the building's 22 floors are divided into three sections: the basement and ground floor represent Hell, floors 1 to 14 make up Purgatory, and floors 15 to 22 personify Paradise. Throughout much of its history and even today, El Palacio Barolo has been used mainly for office space.
