About

Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Woods) is the green heart of the Palermo neighbourhood. It boasts large open park areas with lakes and gardens. Developed in the 19th century and promoted by the President of the Nation at that time, the parks were designed by architect and landscaper Carlos Thays.

The main attraction in Bosques de Palermo is the beautiful gardens known as the 'Rosedal'. This Rose Garden borders a large lake and offers a picturesque landscape, boasting over 1,000 different species of roses. The gardens are one of the best-kept public spaces in the city. Within its grounds, you'll find the Garden of Poets, featuring busts of well-known writers including William Shakespeare and Jorge Luis Borges.

Other green spaces in the nearby area include the Japanese Garden, Ecoparque and the Jardin Botanico. This was also designed by Carlos Thays, who also lived for a while there. Other attractions close by include the Hipódromo Racecourse, El Rural Exhibition Centre, and the Galileo Galilei Planetarium.

Why Visit Bosques de Palermo:

This area offers a great place to relax and enjoy recreational activities such as running, cycling, or rollerblading. The Rose Gardens, free to enter, hold firm to their original design and are a popular backdrop for wedding photos.

Close by, you can hire rowing and pedal boats to venture out onto the lake. On weekends, the local government usually puts on some activities or entertainment.

Did You Know?

The Patio Andaluz within the gardens was built in 1929 and came from the Spanish city of Seville. Additionally, one of the earliest known ideas for a pedalo can be dated back to Leonardo da Vinci, whose sketches illustrate a paddle-powered craft.
